A very loud sound filled the Malostranske Namesti square in Prague, back in 2008. It was the sound of a tuned Ferrari Challenge Stradale. I will always remember this outstanding appearance. With its dark taillights, amazing wheels, modified bodykit and amazing soundtrack. It was the first product by the Novitec Group I ever saw. The Novitec Ferraris are world famous nowadays. What makes this company so successful and what is ‘a Novitec’. It are two of the many questions we fired during our visit to the Novitec Group in Stetten. A young and dynamic company On about a half an hour drive from Munich there’s the village of Stetten where the Novitec Group is based. From the main street in Stetten you can look up to the two buildings of the company on top of the hill. We are welcomed by Dirk Moersdorf, international sales manager. Novitec is founded by Wolfgang Hagedorn in 1989. With a background in the automotive world, Wolfgang decided to start his own company aiming for more personalized products for Italian cars. At first, this were Fiats, the UNO for example got a Novitec makeover. Soon, Alfa Romeo was added. In 2003, the modern Novitec was ‘founded’, they started tuning Ferraris. The Ferrari models get the name Novitec Rosso. The first tuned model was the 360 Modena. One of the most characterizing details of a Novitec Rosso is introduced on this car, the black taillights. These lights are produced especially for Novitec Rosso. Nowadays, this is one of the most characterizing details in the world of Ferrari tuning. In 2007, the company was extended with a second series, Novitec Tridente. At first, the Quattroporte was tuned and soon the GranTurismo followed. Since 2013, a third name is added to the Novitec Group, Lamborghini. The models, for now only the Aventadr LP700-4, get the name Novitec Torado. There are three important values in the company, quality, keeping the original lines of the cars and offering an individual product.
The complex where the Novitec Group is based is relatively small. The sales happen here but a big part of the components is spread over licensed companies who install the Novitec components. In Stetten, there are twelve employees who do a lot of different tasks. From designing, to development and even techniques. In the showroom we see the latest models, the 458 Italia, Novitec Torado Aventador and a Ferrari F12berlinetta. Behind the showroom there’s a small office with a garage. The best thing about the Novitec Group is the area behind the showroom where we find three individual showrooms which follow the stance of the sun. On the left side, we see the workshop and the storage facility. In the workshop, they’re working on different cars including the second N-LARGO and an SA Aperta from a customer from Mongolia. 
From an exhaust to a complete bodykit The success of the company lays in the diversity of the products and the high quality of the products. Novitec Still wants to make only black carbon fiber only because the fibers of black carbon fiber are stronger. A ‘Novitec’ has to be seen as a piece of individualization of your own Ferrari, Maserati or Lamborghini. With the extra options you make your car more unique and more personal. The company isn’t aiming for more extreme cars like other tuners do and they won’t keep crossing boundaries. A great example is the fact that the cars don’t get a big power boost nowadays. Last decennium, Ferrari produced around 400 or 500 hp and there were more possibilities for engine tuning. That’s why they developed the bi-compressor for the 360 Modena and 599 GTB back in the days. Nowadays, the standard 458 Italia produces already 570 hp and a Ferrari F12berlinetta produces even 740 hp. It’s not necessary to boost the power of the current generation of supercars. Novitec prefers a great combination of their products over an, over the top supercar.
Future perspective The traditional markets of a few years ago are long gone. Novitec doesn’t only sell their products in Europe and the North-American market. Meanwhile, you can find the tuned Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis all over the world. The market keeps on moving. Novitec anticipates by looking at the wishes and demands of their customers and how they can fulfill this without losing the identity of the Novitec Group. New markets aren’t approached with complete makeovers, but also with just some specific components. Some customers don’t need a complete bodykit but do want a better suspension of new exhaust system for more emotion.
The Novitec Group is a young and dynamic company that managed to keep the head cool during a heavy economic period. They did this due to the fact that they’re active all over the world. They made some amazing cars with the Novitec Torado Aventador and Novitec N-LARGO but we can expect more. The Ferrari 458 Speciale will get a second update and the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte can also expect a treatment by Novitec. Besides these models we’re really looking forward to the Huracán LP610-4 which will also be tuned by the Novitec Group later this year. A good reason to make a second visit to the company!
