The Gumball 3000, now in it's 16th consecutive year, is an annual British 3,000-mile (4,800 km) international motor rally which takes place on public roads. It was started in 1999 by British entrepreneur, skateboarder and race car driver Maximillion Cooper. This year's route was from Miami to Ibiza, passing through Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Paris and Barcelona.
Reporting from London's iconic Regent's street, I had the opportunity to shoot all the cars with a full grid access as well as attend the private unveiling of the first ever tattooed car. The day started off with a range cars parked along the grid from the London Motor museum including James Bond's famous DB5 and a Lamborghini Countach. As the clock neared 4pm, I made my way to the unveiling. After a short interview with the tattoo artist, I was astonished at the tremendous amount of work put in to create this piece of art - fifteen hours a day for two weeks dot by dot! The tattooed car was the Gumpert Apollo, also belonging to the London Motor Museum. The founder of the London Motor Museum, known as Elo, also Hinted that this car could feature in next year's Gumball 3000. What awaited me next was a grueling four hour wait along the grid for the convoy of cars to arrive. The crowd had already dissipated and apology announcements were being made as the first few cars arrived. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was soon back and running as engines roared - Regents Street was alive again. Hundreds of tablets, phones and cameras were out, photographing and video graphing the stunning show put in place by Maximillion Cooper. My personal highlights included the McLaren P1 and the Wiesman MF5 GT5, both photographed along with other personal favorites below. Stomach full of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and camera full of shots, I can strongly say that the day had been a very enjoyable one. Photos by Sifat Ahmed
