The name Areti is derived from Makarov’s company’s name Itera (spelled backwards). Itera International is one of the largest independent producers and traders of natural gas operating in the CIS and the Baltic states. ITERA is active in energy, gas processing, and construction works projects in Europe, Asia, and the USA. The Company also deals with real estate and the insurance business. Igor Makarov is President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ITERA International. ITERA has been involved in production of natural gas in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region (YaNAO) in Western Siberia (Russia) since 1998. The Company has invested over $1 billion in the gas industry. ITERA is the first private company to put gas fields into operation in the Far North of Russia: Gubkinskoye gas field (reserves of 399 BCM) in 1999, gas deposit (reserves are 407 BCM) of Vostochno-Tarkosalinskoye field in 2001), and Beregovoye (reserves are 325 BCM) in 2003. Itera is also active in the USA. Igor Makarov is also founder of Katyusha, the Russian professional cycling team of the World Tour, and he is president of the Russian Cycling Federation. Igor Makarov owns an Embrear ERJ-135 business jet with registration P4-IVM (Igor Viktorovich Makarov). Makarov ordered the two identical yachts Areti I and Areti II (built by Burger Yachts) so he can base one in the Mediterranean and one in America due to his business interests in each location.
